Ideal destination for a family day trip. For a resort so close by the city, the vertical drop of 300 feet can be impressive. Don’t be afraid to venture further afield to remote areas in search of a ski resort. The increase in drive time will easily translate into more vertical due to less time spent in line.

Mount Pakenham is Eastern Ontario’s premier family ski, board and snowshoeing area. We have three of the newest lifts in the region and we’re just a short drive from Ottawa, Arnprior, Almonte and Renfrew.
Blue, as it is most commonly referred to by locals, has incredible snowmaking coverage, with over 600 snow guns ensuring wonderful soft snow on most runs. If you’re lucky enough to ski on the mountain when the lake effect snow phenomenon of Georgian Bay kicks into action, you might find some significant powder under you boards. You can test your bravery and skills at the three terrain parks Grove, Badlands, or L Park. If you have a car, you can get into Arnprior on your days off or for a night out. There are a few bigger clubs and bars in Arnprior and it’s nice to explore a new town during the season. If you have the opportunity, you should visit Montreal and Quebec City during the winter season.
A separate beginner area is also available, located far from the main lifts. You’ll find a gentle slope here and plenty of space to learn to ski, or just spend time with the children. Lift tickets are some of the cheapest of the ski hills closest to Toronto. A free shuttle runs every 10 minutes from the parking lot to the ski hill. Dagmar’s terrain is not too steep and family-friendly. Four chairlifts and two magic carpets service skiers and boarders on 18 runs.
We had a great time on our winter trip to Northern Edge Algonquin. It wasn’t! only winter sports…we ate delicious, home cooked meals and stayed in a cozy cabin with a wood burning fireplace. The resort is well-known for more than just snowboarding and skiing. There are activities all year round like treetop trekking, segway tours, mountain biking trails, snowshoeing, an Ogo run , zip lines, and a rock climbing wall.
